Lightning rods are manufactured using metals that are resistant to corrosion, which then connects the strike to the electrical limiting devices and the down conductors for safe passage to ground. Even if lightning rods are correctly placed, the correct installation of these devices is critical to properly divert the lightning energy away from the building—thereby eliminating the chance of fire, or lightning increases in electrical surge, or structural damage.
